Los Angeles, California – Snow and gusty winds are making mountain travel hazardous before sunrise Friday, with slick roads expected across the Eastern San Gabriel and Northern Ventura County mountains until 7 a.m. PST.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for areas including Mount Baldy, Wrightwood, Mount Pinos and along the Angeles Crest Highway. Light to moderate snow continues in higher elevations, while wind gusts reach up to 40 mph across exposed ridgelines.
Black ice is likely on shaded curves and bridges.
Clearing skies combined with cold pavement temperatures will allow melted snow to refreeze, especially along Highway 2 on the Angeles Crest Highway, near Mount Wilson and through Lockwood Valley. Drivers on Highway 39 and mountain access roads near Wrightwood may encounter slick patches during the morning commute.
What residents should do now: Reduce speed, allow extra braking distance and check Caltrans QuickMap or call 511 for real-time road conditions before traveling.
Snow showers taper shortly after sunrise, but icy spots may linger through midmorning in higher elevations. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. PST Friday.
