Sioux City, Iowa – Snow continues to fall across western Iowa and northeast Nebraska, coating roads and setting up a slick evening commute through midnight Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST for Buena Vista, Woodbury and Ida counties in Iowa, along with Dakota County in Nebraska. Snow accumulations up to 3 inches are expected, though isolated higher totals cannot be ruled out in heavier bands.

Communities including Sioux City, Storm Lake, Ida Grove, Holstein and South Sioux City are seeing steady snowfall this afternoon and evening. Roads along Interstate 29, U.S. Highway 20 and Highway 75 may become snow-covered, especially on bridges and overpasses where temperatures cool first.

Even minor accumulations can quickly create slippery conditions during peak travel hours. Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and allow extra time to reach their destination. Checking road conditions by dialing 511 can provide the latest updates before heading out.

Snow is expected to taper late tonight, but untreated roads may remain slick into early Friday morning.
