Victorville, California – High Desert drivers face powerful 60 mph wind gusts that could shove vehicles across lanes and snap tree limbs before the Friday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. PST Friday for the Apple and Lucerne Valleys. West winds of 30 to 40 mph are generating gusts between 50 and 60 mph, with the strongest winds expected near mountain foothills.
Communities including Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia and Adelanto will see the brunt of the wind. The Southern California Logistics Airport and surrounding open desert areas may experience severe crosswinds. Drivers along Interstate 15 and State Route 18 should expect sudden gusts, especially in exposed stretches.
Loose outdoor items can quickly become airborne in winds this strong. Residents should secure patio furniture, trash bins and construction materials immediately. Tree limbs may break, and spotty power outages are possible if lines are damaged.
Winds will gradually weaken by Friday afternoon, but hazardous travel conditions could persist through midmorning. Motorists should use extra caution overnight and check local road conditions before heading out.
