Banning, California – Violent 65 mph wind gusts are tearing through the San Gorgonio Pass, creating dangerous crosswinds along Interstate 10 that could topple high-profile vehicles before 9 a.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. PST Friday for the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning. West winds of 30 to 40 mph are producing gusts up to 65 mph, with the strongest impacts funneled directly through the pass.
Drivers along I-10 between Banning and Desert Hot Springs face the highest risk, especially tractor-trailers, RVs and box trucks. Sudden gusts can push vehicles across lanes with little warning. Blowing debris may also scatter across roadways overnight.
Tree limbs could snap under the force of the wind, and isolated power outages are possible if branches strike power lines. Residents should secure outdoor furniture, trash bins and lightweight equipment immediately.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 9 a.m. Friday as winds ease. Travelers should check Caltrans updates before heading through the pass, as additional wind advisories could follow if gusts persist into the morning commute.
