Louisville, Kentucky – Damaging storms capable of producing tornadoes could develop at any moment across parts of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, placing millions under a Tornado Watch until 9 p.m. EST tonight.
According to the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, Tornado Watch 10 includes more than 80 counties across southern and central Indiana, much of central and western Kentucky, and portions of southeast Illinois. The watch remains in effect through 9 p.m. EST, covering major population centers including Louisville, Evansville, Bloomington, Owensboro and Bowling Green.
In Indiana, counties from Vanderburgh and Posey east through Clark, Floyd and Jefferson are included. In Kentucky, the watch stretches from Jefferson and Hardin counties south and west through Daviess, Hopkins and Warren, and north toward Oldham, Shelby and Henry counties. Southern Illinois counties such as Gallatin, Saline, Wayne and White are also under the watch.
Storms developing this afternoon and evening could produce isolated tornadoes, damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and large hail. The threat will likely increase into the late afternoon commute and persist through mid-evening.
Residents should review shelter plans now, keep phones fully charged and be ready to move to an interior room on the lowest floor if warnings are issued. Additional watches or warnings could be issued with little notice as storms intensify.
