Hartford, Connecticut – A shift toward milder winter weather could bring periods of rain to Connecticut heading into mid-January, with brief windows of icy conditions possible inland as temperatures fluctuate near freezing.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Connecticut is favored to see above-normal temperatures during the January 9–13 period, while precipitation levels trend near normal. This pattern supports rain as the dominant precipitation type, though colder air near the surface could briefly allow freezing rain in sheltered inland locations.

Interior areas, including Litchfield County and the higher terrain of northwestern Connecticut, may see isolated icy spots during overnight and early morning hours. Routes such as U.S. 7, Route 8, and elevated secondary roads could become slick if surface temperatures dip below freezing while precipitation continues.

Along the I-95 corridor and coastal communities including New Haven, Bridgeport, and New London, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain, limiting snow and ice concerns but increasing the likelihood of wet roadways and reduced visibility during heavier showers.

Drivers are encouraged to remain alert to changing conditions, especially during early commutes. Additional advisories may be issued as the pattern becomes clearer closer to the period, particularly if colder air lingers longer than expected.
