Wisconsin Tornado Outbreak: 7 Twisters Confirmed on Saturday, Church Destroyed

Milwaukee, WI – Wisconsin experienced a significant weather event on Saturday, June 22, when seven tornadoes touched down, causing extensive damage across multiple counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Milwaukee provided detailed reports on each tornado’s path, intensity, and impact.

According to the NWS, the tornadoes brought peak winds of 60-80 mph due to downburst winds. The first tornado, rated EF-0, struck Belmont in Lafayette County, causing minor damage over a 5.60-mile path. Argyle in Lafayette County witnessed a stronger EF-2 tornado, with peak winds of 135 mph, covering 6.94 miles and destroying the Apple Grove Lutheran Church.

The Marshall/Waterloo area in Dane and Jefferson Counties saw an EF-1 tornado with winds reaching 105 mph, damaging farms and trees over a 4.58-mile path. Watertown in Jefferson County also faced an EF-1 tornado, causing significant damage along a 2.07-mile route with winds of 105 mph.

Janesville in Rock County was hit by the largest tornado of the day, an EF-2, with peak winds of 115 mph. This tornado spanned 6.21 miles and had a maximum width of 700 yards, causing extensive damage in the area, especially south of the former GM plant.

In Walworth County, the towns of Williams Bay and Fontana were impacted by EF-1 tornadoes. The Williams Bay tornado damaged subdivisions and trees along a 6.07-mile path, while the Fontana tornado caused similar damage over 5.31 miles with winds reaching 100 mph.

Despite the widespread damage, there were no reported injuries or fatalities from any of the tornadoes. The NWS continues to survey the affected areas and provide updates on the recovery efforts.
