Tornado Risk Looms Over Iowa and Illinois: Severe Weather Expected Saturday

Quad Cities, IL/IA – The potential for severe storms, including isolated tornadoes, is increasing for Illinois and Iowa on Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) alert for severe thunderstorms, which may include damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall.

According to the NWS, these severe storms are expected to develop late Saturday afternoon and continue into the night. The area at risk includes a line extending from Burlington to Sterling. Residents are advised to stay tuned to weather updates and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Today’s forecast predicts scattered showers and storms, especially north of Highway 30. High temperatures will range from the mid-80s in the north to the lower 90s in the south. On Saturday, the heat continues with highs between 80 to 87 degrees north of Highway 30 and 88 to 95 degrees south of the highway. The risk of strong to severe storms increases by late afternoon, with the highest chances northwest of a line from Keokuk to Sterling.

Sunday’s weather looks more favorable, with sunny skies and highs in the 80s. However, the focus remains on the severe weather threat for Saturday. The main risks include damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes, and heavy rainfall.

Residents in Illinois and Iowa are urged to stay informed and prepared as the weekend approaches.
