Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9 PM for New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, PA – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania until 9 PM EDT Wednesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh announced that the watch may be expanded further south if new storms develop in central Ohio.

According to the NWS, areas under the watch include Cleveland, Erie, Pittsburgh, New Castle, State College, Binghamton, and Scranton. The primary threats are isolated hail up to the size of ping pong balls, scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph, and frequent lightning. Approximately 5.6 million people, 1,806 schools, and 146 hospitals are within the watch zone.

The NWS advises residents to stay prepared by checking for forecast updates, monitoring sky conditions, and knowing where to take shelter if necessary. Severe thunderstorms can develop quickly, posing significant risks to safety and property. It is crucial to take the watch seriously and be ready to act if the situation escalates to a warning.
