Nebraska and Iowa Brace for Damaging Winds, Hail Monday Night

Omaha, NE – Residents of Nebraska and Iowa are being cautioned to prepare for potential severe weather Monday night, with forecasts indicating a risk of damaging winds and hail. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a slight risk for severe weather, rated 2 out of 5 on the severity scale. The storms, which are expected to be widely scattered, may develop between 6 PM and 12 AM.

According to the US National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Nebraska, while many areas might not experience severe weather, any storms that do form could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to the size of quarters. There is also a 20-30% chance of storms, with a 5-15% chance that any given storm will be severe.

The primary threat from these storms is damaging winds. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. There is also a chance for another round of strong to severe storms on Tuesday night.
