Detroit, MI – A Michigan county sheriff’s deputy was tragically killed during an auto theft investigation in Detroit on Saturday. Deputy Brad Reckling, a nine-year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, was ambushed while conducting a task force operation that originated in Madison Heights.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Reckling and his team were following leads that took them into the City of Detroit. Three suspects were apprehended, and more details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
Deputy Reckling, 36, is survived by his wife and three children, ages 5, 4, and 1, with another child on the way. He was widely regarded as a dedicated officer and a cherished member of the community.
A statement from the Detroit Police Department expressed deep condolences: “On behalf of the Detroit Police Department and its over 3,000 sworn and civilian members, our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Bradley Reckling.”
