Indianapolis, IN – Firefighters from the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) successfully rescued a great horned owl trapped in a soccer net at Saint Francis Soccer Fields on Arlington Avenue. The incident occurred when a concerned citizen alerted the nearby IFD Station 35 crew about the owl’s predicament.

According to the IFD, the crew from Ladder 35 arrived promptly and spent approximately 15 minutes carefully cutting the net to free the owl without causing further harm. The owl, which appeared to be uninjured, was then released back into the wild.

Fire officials noted that such incidents are not uncommon, as owls can become entangled while hunting or exploring unfamiliar areas. Wildlife experts suggest removing or securing nets when not in use to prevent similar occurrences. The IFD also recommended contacting local wildlife services for assistance if such an event happens again.
