St. Louis, MO – Dangerous heat is expected across Missouri on Tuesday, with heat indices ranging from 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. This has prompted the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis to issue a Heat Advisory, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
According to the NWS, the advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The extreme heat increases the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to drink plenty of water and limit outdoor activities during the afternoon when temperatures are at their highest. The NWS also recommends wearing lightweight clothing, avoiding strenuous activity, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles.
The advisory covers much of the region, including areas like Columbia, Jefferson City, and St. Louis. Heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible, and residents should be vigilant for symptoms like heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and unconsciousness.
Local authorities are setting up cooling centers to help residents cope with the heat. Those without access to air conditioning are encouraged to use these facilities. Additionally, community members are urged to check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions.
