Madison, WI – Attention, nature enthusiasts and curious critter collectors! The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has a buzzing update: please leave the cicadas at Big Foot Beach State Park in Walworth County right where you find them.

Recent sightings of folks capturing these noisy insects have led the DNR to remind everyone that taking animals, even insects, from state parks is a no-go. While you can hunt and fish in designated areas, cicada hunting isn’t on the approved list.

Park staff and wardens are now on high alert, ready to educate visitors about this rule. If the cicada capers continue, enforcement actions might just follow. Spot someone sneaking off with a cicada? Call the DNR’s Violation Hotline at 1-800-847-9367 and let them know.

So, next time you’re at Big Foot Beach State Park, enjoy the cicadas’ chorus but leave the stars of the show behind. For more details, check out the DNR website.
