Central Indiana Weather: Storms, Heatwave Records in Focus

Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is preparing for severe storms expected to arrive early Tuesday morning, accompanied by the potential for isolated damaging winds. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis, storms are anticipated from early Tuesday through Wednesday, bringing a temporary break in the recent heatwave.

The forecast for Monday shows mostly sunny skies with temperatures ranging from 83°F to 89°F. On Tuesday, temperatures will soar between 90°F and 96°F, with thunderstorms likely in the early morning and late at night. Wednesday’s weather will see a slight cool down, with temperatures between 80°F and 85°F and more storm activity expected.

Thursday promises a brief reprieve with mostly sunny conditions and temperatures between 78°F and 84°F. However, storm chances return on Friday, with temperatures ranging from 83°F to 90°F. The weekend forecast includes partly sunny skies and scattered thunderstorms on Saturday, with highs between 86°F and 91°F.

This weather alert follows a record-breaking heatwave in Indiana. According to the NWS, Fort Wayne and South Bend experienced six consecutive days of high temperatures and humidity. Fort Wayne recorded highs between 90°F and 97°F from June 17-22, while South Bend saw temperatures between 91°F and 94°F. Both cities set new records for warm low temperatures, with nighttime lows staying in the low to mid-70s.
